As a coach at any level it is great to get an inside picture of what a program with an incredible tradition of excellence does to operate successfully. This coaches handbook is exactly just that opportunity. I have taken it from the eightlaces.org website, which is a great resource for coaching materials that are not X's and O's but more for running an effective program. A couple of things that strike me in this handbook are the way that everything is laid out philosophically and programatically. The basis for growth of players and coaches by Coach Bob Ladouceur is determined by one's own dedication, goal setting and plain old hard work. I was surprised to hear that when college coaches visited his program to try to learn how his players fired off the Line of Scrimmage so well, he didn't have any secret to it, just that they worked on it year round. Because Coach Lad is an Offensive Line coach he truly lives out the philosophy that Linemen win games! There is some great material on offensive line blocking included as well. If you don't know anything about this team, just google them and you will see just how successfull they were. After reading this I was motivated to try many of the things he discussed. Another takeaway I had was that as a program, your offense or defense should be simple enough that everyone can understand it and be on the same page. Then your focus is on becoming a technition at your position. Read it and become a better coach. Then come back and share what you learned that made the biggest impact. Share this post with a coach you thing will love it as well!
