We headed over to the Rose Bowl this week for another great play of the week! Here we have Penn State’s offense running their version of the spread offense that was so effective for them last year.
They run a zone option based offense with lots of RPO’s.
This play specifically is a counter but with the RPO fake, the defense is held in check and they get a nice gain.
By pulling the backside Guard, it looks a little like the dart play, however the original Dart is a power type of play where the frontside blocks back or down except for the playside Tackle who pass sets to draw the End upfield.
Here, the line blocks playside instead and actually this is a full zone pickup of a blitzing LB.
