How Many Plays Should You Put In Your Playbook? How to know the exact number.
When you are getting your offense ready to roll this season it’s easy to start adding things to the playbook that you want to do. But how much should you be doing? And if you put too much stuff in you will probably confuse your players – especially if they are young and inexperienced.
Don’t make the mistake of putting in too much that you won’t be using or isn’t really necessary because every play you are practicing should have a purpose. I’ll talk about what that purpose is and how you can make sure your first weeks of practice are the most efficient they have ever been.
Here’s something that can also help you out getting started with your offensive game planning. It’s all my sheets and templates you can use or edit to your own liking if you have Microsoft Excel.

I’ve coached since 1981 and your information has been extremely helpful. I am grateful you’ve taken time out to do this. It just goes to show that you’re never to old to learn something new. Scripting practice plays, and your breakdown, will help me become a better coach and teacher. I usually have just gone from memory, because it’s how I learn and have had success as a coach. Again thank you and I look forward to learning more.
Thanks for the kind words Coach! I appreciate your openness to learn. I’m sure I’d learn a few things from you as well! Keep me posted with how it goes!
