Do you want to be a leader and be recognized for your coaching?

Do you want to be a head coach?

Do you want to make your child a star?

Do you want to experience the exhilaration of winning?

I've heard from lots of coaches saying how they like being a student of the game and I wonder what they really want to get out of coaching football?

Do me a favor and tell me what really motivates you in the comments below!

I think being a student of the game is a great goal for football coaches at all levels. But a quick search in Google on "football offense" gives you so much to learn and try out you can spend a lifetime running a different offense every year! That's why we have to stop thinking about football offense in terms of right ones or wrong ones to run.

I definitely have plays I like more then others, but really all an offense consists of is actually a collection of plays. Since plays grouped together make an offense, there's an infinite number of "offenses" you could run because there's an infinite number of plays you could put together or create. To be a great coach you have to know your plays inside and out – and you have to know how to put them together so team's can't figure out easily how to defend the combination of plays you have. You also can't have too many plays because your players will never achieve perfection of execution.

There are a couple of ways to get this solid group of plays to run. One way is to try it out and test it every year. The problem with this is that doing everything on your own is much slower then learning from someone else. You might get lucky, or you might never figure it out. There's a lot of risk in this method.

The other way is to learn from others what works and what doesn't and why. Whether it's a mentor or coaching program you have purchased, it should explain in clear terms all of these things. And that's probably still not enough. Anybody that expects to just buy a playbook and go run them and hope they work will never get great results. You have to have someone to bounce off ideas and problems because no two teams are exactly alike. Having a mentor helps you work through these issues quickly instead of going back to the whole trial and error method.

Just recently I got an email begging me to send a coach a few plays because it would really make a difference in his program. Whether I send the plays or not, I know they will have little to do wiith helping him grow as a coach. What does matter is his desire to learn with humility from other coaches who have experience and knowledge. You have to be willing to put yourself out there and ask questions about the how and why in every little detail. Growth happens when you have an open mind to doing it differently then before and you are totally committed to something. Add in a mentor that you can learn the in's and out's of something and you will have real transformational growth.

Here's a clip I love of why you need a mentor to achieve lasting change from Tony Robbins. Most people think they can just do it themselves. Here's why that rarely happens.

Totally makes sense right?

It's like the question of the true definition of commitment.

Question:
In a bacon-and-egg breakfast, what’s the difference between the Chicken and the Pig?

Answer:
The Chicken is involved, but the Pig is committed!

To really grow, you have to have a Pig kind of committment to breakfast!

It's this understanding of growth that has me thinking.

Maybe you need more then the videos and resources.

Maybe you need to see how all the little nuances are applied to make things work smoothly.

Maybe you just have questions that you can't answer yourself.

Maybe you can't achieve that goal you thought of above until you get this offense working.

Hopefully you already have a mentor who can help you.

Sidenote…

A huge roadblock I once had to getting a mentor or group of mentors who could help me was paying them $$$ – because getting mentoring isn't cheap. But some of the best mentors in the world can transform you in as little as one meeting. That's worth the cost. I've tried it and am in a group right now – and my focus and growth couldn't be better. One day I'll be able to afford this mentor hopefully!

What's a REAL DEAL mentor charge? Try upwards of $5,000 daily. If you were paying for that, how seriously would you take your day with him? I think you'd be prepared and do exactly what they told you to do. And that's why it's worth it. Just sort of committing to a mentor's training isn't going to get you anywhere. But selling out to something gets you total transformation.

If you don't have a mentor, it's never too late. I know some of you just want the Pro Style Spread Offense system and access to others running it for feedback. I'll never stop providing that and I'll jump in and help wherever I can.

But if anyone wants more, check this out HERE.

Now, go and transform your offense this season.
